Sealing of Financial Affidavits

Re: Inquiry Regarding Sealing of Financial Affidavits and Other Documents in Family Matters:

Under Connecticut Practice Book Section 25-59A (h), Financial Affidavits are automatically sealed. Sworn statements of current income, expenses, assets and liabilities filed with the court shall be under seal and disclosable only to the judicial authority, court personnel, the parties of the action and attorneys appointed to the matter. However, except as otherwise provided by law, the judicial authority shall not seal or limit the disclosure of any other files, affidavits, or documents on file with the court. These documents are pretty much made available to the public unless there is a showing that the reason to seal the documents outweighs the public’s First Amendment right to free access of these documents.
