Second marriages more likely to end in divorce, experts say

First-time marriages may not be lucky for some individuals. Connecticut residents may be interested to know that recent statistics show that people who marry for the second time (or more), may be facing an even greater chance of divorce. Marriage therapists suggest that people who marry more than once have a harder time keeping those marriages intact.

Many experts believe that people enter into second marriages before they're entirely over the first ones. That is to say, they are still dealing with the fallout of the first marriage ending in divorce. They may bring some of those issues into other relationships. The so-called baggage could include communication, trust and anger issues. There may also be issues connected to finances and how that plays out in a new marriage as well, especially since money tops the list of what couples argue about most.

Individuals marrying more than once might be wise to have a prenuptial agreement in place before tying the knot. This is especially prudent if minor children are involved. Blended families can be a difficult adjustment and can be another contentious issue in second marriages.

A Connecticut attorney experienced in divorce matters can assist a client who has questions about marrying for a second or more times. A lawyer may also be able to help in other family law matters such as the drafting of a prenuptial or postnuptial agreement. Divorce is not easy, but those who have already been through a divorce once likely know what to expect and, with an attorney's assistance, can do it again if the need arises.

We Listen, We Help, We Care

  • Hi Yuliana and Attorney Prince, Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to meet with me. I really appreciated how compassionate you were while listening to my situation, even through my tears. Thank you so much for sharing such valuable information with me. I left feeling very hopeful that when the dust settles, I’ll be ok.
  • Wendy helped guide us through a very difficult and emotional process and was really able to provide an even and fair account for both parties. It's quite evident in her expertise in this area but the way she was able to make you feel safe and secure in a very insecure time goes far beyond her legal prowess. If the two parties are really willing to cooperate and collaborate, she's there to help gain the best possible solution for all involved, especially if there are children.
  • Regardless of how committed one is to the fact that divorce may be imminent and necessary, it is truly one of the most emotional and stressful situations one can experience. It can also be daunting. Wendy has a remarkable ability to cut through the noise and help you focus on the big picture while drilling down on what is most pertinent to your particular situation., they are a formidable team who work collectively with your best interests in mind.
