Connecticut Guardian Ad Litem Services

When parents are caught up in divorce disputes over custody and parenting / visitation schedules in Connecticut, family law judges often appoint a guardian ad litem (GAL) to make recommendations to the court regarding the best interests of the children and to advise the court what might work best in the family. The GAL is placed into a position of making recommendations on behalf of the welfare of the children, if the parents are unable to come to an agreement.

In post-divorce cases involving changes in the current custody or parenting schedule and especially when there is significant conflict between parents, parties may benefit from a relationship with a GAL involved with changes in custody and parenting/visitation schedules. The role of a GAL is to meet with the parents, teachers and other child care providers to determine what may be needed to meet the best interest of the child. Any post-judgment modification typically requires a Motion to the court and a subsequent hearing date. Thereafter, a new Order is entered in Court.
