Child custody: Balancing professional life with parenting time

Divorced working parents have a lot on their plates. For busy Connecticut professionals who are parents, balancing their work life with the amount of time they have to spend with their children can be stressful. There are ways to get the most out of child custody rights while maintaining a strong work ethic as well. There is no reason a higher income-earning parent shouldn't get as much parenting time as does a stay-at-home parent.

A parent trying to make a case for more parenting hours should always remember the importance of putting children first. A parent must be able to make time for what's important: getting kids ready for school, attending games, helping with homework, seeing that they're fed and clean, picking them up from school, etc. Asking for more time than can be given would not be in the best interests of the children and they may be let down when a parent promises something and can't deliver.

Most family court judges understand that life is busy and are more open to having non-parent caretakers in a child's routine. So, when a busy parent can't pick up the kids from school or take them to extracurricular activities, perhaps a caretaker could do so on occasion. Also, being organized at work may give a busy parent more time with his or her kids and colleagues are likely to be supportive of someone who puts the needs of his or her children at the top of a to-do list.

A Connecticut lawyer may be able to help a client iron out the emotionally-fraught aspects of child custody. It is one of the most pressing aspects of divorce. A lawyer may be able to help a client come to a mutually agreeable custody arrangement with a former spouse that are in the best interests of the children.

We Listen, We Help, We Care

  • Hi Yuliana and Attorney Prince, Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to meet with me. I really appreciated how compassionate you were while listening to my situation, even through my tears. Thank you so much for sharing such valuable information with me. I left feeling very hopeful that when the dust settles, I’ll be ok.
  • Wendy helped guide us through a very difficult and emotional process and was really able to provide an even and fair account for both parties. It's quite evident in her expertise in this area but the way she was able to make you feel safe and secure in a very insecure time goes far beyond her legal prowess. If the two parties are really willing to cooperate and collaborate, she's there to help gain the best possible solution for all involved, especially if there are children.
  • Regardless of how committed one is to the fact that divorce may be imminent and necessary, it is truly one of the most emotional and stressful situations one can experience. It can also be daunting. Wendy has a remarkable ability to cut through the noise and help you focus on the big picture while drilling down on what is most pertinent to your particular situation., they are a formidable team who work collectively with your best interests in mind.
